When the leaves change color and the fresh air of autumn comes blowing, our wardrobes aren’t the only ones that are in need of a change. Even hair can be given a change of season. However, the point is as follows: do you really have to spend hours in front of the mirror to be on-trend? Or is the answer to appearing stylishly with little effort this fall hidden within some of the simplest fall 2025 hair styles? I will start with the ones I have been obsessed with of late, they are easy, multi-purpose and will definitely give your appearance that comfy-but-clean feeling we all desire once the leaves begin to change.
Romantic Braided Half-Up
It seems to be an ancient thing to have the strands weaving in the opposite direction, and yet allowing your lengths to flow down your shoulders. This half-up braid is fun and fancy, the type of braid that takes no more than a few seconds but makes you think you thought it out. The texture added in the waves causes the depth and the braids smooths the face perfectly, these are best when you want structure without doing an updo.
To maintain the definition of the braids with the flow of the day, I adore running a light mousse through wet hair and then do the work. It is also a type of style that can stand the whole day. Even when it frees it gets somehow better– unloosened, more romantic, more fall.
High Pony with Waves
Slick on the top and bouncy on the bottom– the high pony is a timeless style, but when some loose waves are added, it can become fall 2025-ready. It is cute and elegant and takes an ordinary pony to a level where you would happily wear it to work and to brunch on weekends.
When you are concerned with flatness, spray a root-lifting spray like Living Proof Full Dry Volume and Texture Spray and then pull it up. It holds the crown up and keeps that hateful ponytail down.
I will admit: I put on this one when I want to feel powerful. Something about a high pony makes you sit in a different way, as though you suddenly remember to sit tall. This is a snatched pony effect, celeb hairstylist Chris Appleton regularly discusses this effect I feel this myself.

The thing that I like about this appearance is that it is very quiet elegant. I can envision putting it on to get a latte in the morning, the way I would do it, had I been walking in downtown during a brisk October morning. Hair legend Guido Palau has repeatedly said that imperfection is what makes hair beautiful and this braid seems to be an evidence.
This braid is attractive because of its versatility. It disarranges readily as the day passes by, and thus by evening one gets that unbraided, romantic quality about it–almost as though you had two hair styles on the same head.
Effortless Messy Bun
Occasionally, the most desirable hairdo is that which appears as though you put little effort into it. This untidy bun and the softer bits that frame the face have become one of my favorites. It is flirtatious but elegant, between careless and deliberate – precisely the dynamism that fall clothes possesses.
This type of messy bun also works well with a flexible hairspray. I will spray some Bumble and bumble Does It All Hairspray to finish the look, this way, the bun would not feel hard. The separated strands also look shiny with a little shine serum instead of frizzy.
I personally use this style when I am working in a cafe, with oversized shirt sleeves rolled up and holding a coffee in my hand. It is friendly and casual, but not sloppy. It is a way of telling the world that I have things to do but I still look good doing it.

It is something about this braid that always brings me back to autumn walks, when I am wearing a thick knitted sweater and the leaves are crunching as I walk. It is comfortable, it is sensible and it appears to belong in a street-style snapshot in Paris.

This is a pony that I go back to over and over. It is casual enough to go on an errand and trendy enough to sit in a cafe with an iced latte and still look stylish. It is that ideal combination of easy and smoothness.
I believe that I consider it the fashion equivalent of a favorite sweater, something you can depend on, but something that fits you well, regardless. It does not become the focus at all, but rather allows the other parts of your appearance to shine.
Crown Braids into a Tail
Crown braids possess this enchanted power to ensure that you are sophisticated and friendly at the same time. The head is framed in braids that then join at the back to form one thick tail. It is a haircut that looks fancy but not fussy – the sort of thing that draws attention on a sunny fall stroll without too much effort.
The trick to that smooth, yet voluminous braid is that I always use a styling cream and then section the hair. A lifesaver in this situation is Davines OI All in One Milk which will detangle, smooth and hold everything in check as you weave. In that sense, the braid has structure without stiffness.

In the absence of that balance, the top will seem heavy–the waves will make it light and whimsical.
This appearance reminds me of walking to an autumn festival or a dinner outside with fairy lights overhead. Details are romantic, and they always attract compliments since they appear more complex than they seem. It is proved by the fact that, once Hairstylist Sarah Potempa stated, that braiding is simply sectioning with a purpose.
It is also forgiving – even when you do not get the weaving to the nail, the pattern produces such motion that the flaws are incorporated in the pattern. That’s part of its magic.
Chunky Bubble Braid
The bubble braid is our new best friend in case you want the drama but you do not have time to braid one. This is divided very cleanly along the back, with the resultant bubbles being rounded and bulky, but very prominent. It’s slick and trendy, yet still childlike – perfect on fall days when you are blending tailored garments with warm materials.
Here the important thing is elastics and smoothing. I tend to drop a couple of drops of Kérastase Elixir Ultime oil along the lengths to give it some shine, and then use clear elastics to hold each section in place. A little pulling on each bubble then produces that rounded, pillowy appearance.
In some way, this braid is empowering. I have paired it with leather jackets and it gives me this arrogant swagger that I am the boss yet I still have fun. Hairstylist Chris Appleton frequently refers to bubble braids as the easiest statement hairstyle, and he is correct; it is an easy shortcut to impact.
Plus, it lasts all day. The bubbles do not burst out even when they are moved around. It is high-style, low-effort, which is what I need during busy weeks in the fall.
Braided Low Bun
The braids do not necessarily have to run down the back of the head but can be made in nice low buns as well. This is the type of style that is sleek on the top and is twisted at the back with braids to make it look smooth and textured at the back of the head. It is vintage, however, the braiding makes it look contemporary.
This is most effective on freshly washed hair, as clean strands are woven more easily in my opinion. I will use a smoothing cream such as Aveda Smooth Infusion before I braid it all– it helps keep everything smooth and there are no flyaways. It is capped with a small can of hairspray.
This is a hairdo I tend to wear on a dinner or meeting date. It has authority and yet remains friendly. Stylist Anh Co Tran has oft said that one should never see hair that appears overdone, and this bun fits the bill: it is not messy, it is definitely in a nice pile, but it is still delicate.
And it becomes a silently powerful beauty statement when combined with dainty earrings or striking lip.
Braided Crown Bun
Since this is where the structure and softness converge. Braids are weaved around the head, pulled together into a bun and form a kingly figure that remains friendly. It is safe, useful, and admittedly fashionable – the kind of thing you would see a person in Paris wearing a camel coat.
This is because the success of this look is in parting. I never leave any section dirty before braiding it and I always use a tail comb. An anti-flyaway paste, such as Ouidad Curl Quencher Moisturizing Styling Gel, can be used to contain the smaller strands, particularly at the front of the head.
I always feel very put together when I wear this hairstyle, as though I have gone out of my way to look good despite the simplicity of the rest of my attire. Hairstylist Vernon François frequently discusses braids as a means of celebrating hair texture and culture, and this crown bun is a slight nod to that background without being out of fashion.
The outerwear is the only special thing about it. Scarves, coats, collars, there is nothing that the bun is disturbed by and you appear absolutely neat in all directions.
Tucked Low Bun
Elegant styles can be very simple at times. This is a small knot in a low bun, smooth yet tender, perched directly at the back of the head and rolled into a small sticky knot. It is perennial- it functions whether I am going to an office meeting or I am putting on a sweater on a cold fall day.
Here the secret is control without rigidity. I apply a smoothing balm such as the Kerastase Discipline Keratine Thermique that sets the strands in place and still allows them to move freely. To keep the part sharp before twisting all of it back in place, a fine-tooth comb is used.
I also adore the way that this bun matches up with fall fashion. Scarves, collars, coats–all that is nothing. It is clean throughout the day and to be totally honest, I do wear it when I need to feel put together. That buns are some kind of confidence style is something Jen Atkin has mentioned many times but this is just that, silent confidence with no dramatics.
Another unexpected perk? It attracts the interest of earrings. Such a basic piece of a hoop or a pearl just falls into the entire image as a sort of accessories that you did not even think about before.
Half-Up with Clips and Curls
This half-up style combines the loose curls and a simple clipped-back part that gives volume to hair but keeps it out of the face. The impact is nonchalant and yet sophisticated, a light, airy appearance that makes so much sense at autumn lunches or evenings out.
I prefer to roll the lengths with a wide-barrel curling iron, and hold them in place with a spray of Ouai Texturizing Hair Spray. This gives it a hold, as well as volume, and once I have the top part down with the least amount of clips, the curls give everything the perfect frame.
What I like about this appearance is that it feels so young and still does not show a slide into girlishness. It has that Pinterest feel, cozy sweaters, warm-colored makeup, perhaps with a chai latte in hand. This puts me immediately into a photogenic mood, a kind of blessing on a hectic day.
Personality is also a good way to experiment with clips. Change neutral clips with gold or pearl-studded ones and the style looks more dressed-up, without any effort.
Textured Loose Chignon
The loose chignon is a classical evergreen, however, it becomes contemporary and romantic when it is arranged with textured elements and some strands around the face. This is the type of hairstyle that looks best with cozy dresses that are knit or even dress-up coats in the fall.
To make it bigger, I will add some teasing to the crown before wrapping it into the bun. The L’Oréal Elnett Satin Hairspray is sprayed lightly to hold it in place and it can still be touched. A quick wave of a curling wand is added to face-framing strands to create a light wave on their faces.
Wearing this, I lose track of time and I feel like I have entered one of Jane Austen novels, but in the 21st century with a brand-new twist. Chris Appleton has repeatedly complained that hair around the face transforms the mood of an updo, and, in this instance, it is, in fact, so: it makes the bun less stiff.
It is also the type of style that can be worn all-day until evening without tightening, which makes it even better.
Polished Braided Knot
This bun is not only smooth, but is also twisted. The hair is twisted into a hairstyle that is both elegant and well-ordered by coiling the braid in a smooth knot at the back. It is the best alternative when I need my hair out of the way around my shoulders and still presentable.
Here, shine is everything. I will pour a little Moroccan Oil Treatment through my hair and then braid it down my back, so when I roll the bun up, it has that reflective quality that makes the pattern stand out. The job is completed with a few bobby pins and some flexible spray.
I consider this type to be very effective in more official environments. It goes perfectly with sleeveless tops or open-back dresses – and, in this case, the hairstyle is the focal point of the look. Hairstylist Guido Palau has called braids wearable sculpture and this bun seems like living art.
And yet, it’s practical. When tacked down, it does not move, so it is one of my go-tos on long outings.
Playful High Pony with Ribbon
High ponies are always trendy, but it becomes youthful and flirtatious when a ribbon or oversized scrunchie is added. This pony is thick and bouncy and the strands are gently pulled toward the face to frame it. It is fun, light and frankly the best hairstyle to adopt on days where I feel like being a little playful.
In order to retain the lift, I always apply volumizing spray at the roots prior to pulling hair up. The game changer on this appearance is Drybar Southern Belle Volume Boosting Spray. The lengths added to the ponytail later create an additional bounce which is ideally matched with the ribbon detail.
Personally, I reserve this appearance on weekends, it feels like it puts me right away in a more light mood, like I’m tapping into the careless mood of fall festivals or helpless coffee runs. Tying a ribbon is a bit nostalgic, but combined with modern waves, it is new.
As celebrity stylist Justine Marjan once admired, accessories make a ponytail appear planned, and this hairdo proves this claim literally. The ribbon makes a simple pony worth taking a second look at.
Casual Everyday Braid
Nothing is more down-to-earth than a plain braid, pulled back and with just enough texture to make it contemporary. The style is fast, utilitarian, but somehow always looks good – the kind of an appearance I fall back on in busy fall mornings when I want to look good but not too serious about it.
Much like nylon, I prefer to spray my hair with a detangling spray such as It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In beforehand to make the braiding process easier and to keep snags to a minimum. Light shine serum does not weigh down the braid, but it adds definition to it.
I like this braid because it seems rather malleable. Comfortable enough to wear with a T-shirt when running errands or fancy enough to wear with earrings and trench coat when going to the city, it matches both. Hairstylist Justine Marjan has mentioned that braids are eternal since they can be worn anywhere and I couldn’t agree more.
And honestly? When a few strands come out during the day, it is just another added benefit. And the beauty of fall hairstyles is that some messiness is purposeful.
Minimal Sleek Bun
This bun is inserted and smooth, so it seems to be the meaning of minimalism. All of this is pushed back into a low knot with smooth lines that appear graceful in all directions. It is the type of hair cut that matches well with clean neutrals and outer wear that are structured- the fall style.
To achieve such a glass-like finish, I tend to use Color Wow Dream Coat Supernatural Spray prior to blowing it dry. It prevents humidity and this is particularly desirable during unpredictable autumn weather. Then a through stroker such as Aveda Smooth Infusion would close the appearance and then twist it in.

Double Dutch Braids
There is always some edge to double Dutch braids–young, daring, a touch of sport. I have been noticing less tight, more textured ones this fall that make the look softer without losing its statement quality. Good to wear under a coat or even to be topped with a beanie.
This sort of braid works best. Before parting and braiding I apply a texturizing mousse and hold them with clear elastics. One spray of Redken Triple Dry 15 on the end makes all things airy but controlled.
When I put on this type, I feel active – as though I am about to have an active day out exploring, shopping or visiting friends. To his credit, Kim Kardashian stylist Chris Appleton has referred to braids as the ultimate cool-girl shield, and to the credit of it all, this is what they feel like: protective, powerful, but admittedly stylish.
They’re also low-maintenance. One day you can wear them tight and then wear them loose overnight and the next day you will wake up with easy waves. Two looks in one.
Romantic Textured Updo
It is a very soft updo, so a portion of woven hair is pinned to a low bun at the back and then there are pieces of loose hair which run all around the sides of the face. It is not fussy romantic enough to be out of place in the fall when it is great-coat time, and you don’t wish your hair to scream fancy.
I would first curl the lengths on, then use your fingers to kind of comb the hair and then twist it into a bun to add some texture. An adjustable hold spray such as Oribe Superfine holds the style in place but still allows movement.
This is one of the garments that always make me more graceful. It is the type of hairstyle that everyone seems to compliment at restaurants or at a holiday party, yet does not require much effort. Hairstylist Tracey Cunningham has repeatedly stated that the most effective styles add up to, as opposed to burying them, and this updo delivers on that promise.
And, it is mollifying–though softening, it grows more romantic, nearer to design.
Half-Up Mini Knot
Half-ups are always a perfect happy medium and this miniature knot at the back is particularly invigorating. It leaves the hair flowing naturally, but keeps the rest of the hair out of your face, giving a laid-back yet stylish look that would best suit any day of the week.
I apply a lightweight serum (before I tie) to put down flyaways at the top of my hair. Then I roll a little portion up into the knot and pin it with pins. The effect is cool and casual, as though you did not think it through.
This is my everyday look on transitional days when I am working at home, running errands and perhaps having a spontaneous coffee date. It is familiar, not sloppy. I am reminded of this style because celebrity stylist Vernon François has claimed that your hair is the closest accessory to self and I agree with him. It is a very basic thing, and yet expresses something about your mood.
And it is always infinitely flexible. Hair is straight and therefore minimalistic, it acquires romanticism when there are waves or curls.
Voluminous Braided Cascade
This type of braid is a statement braid by itself. The volume, the complexity, the manner in which each strand interlaces with the one before it, it is powerful and romantic. In the fall, I really like how it can be worn with textured coats or leather jackets and it almost becomes an extension of the hair.
To create such a volume I will prepare with mousse and blow-dry upside down. After I have braided it I pull on each bit till it looks fuller. Flexible hairspray such as that of Oribe Superfine will not lose its shape without maintaining its softness.
Personally I never felt stopped by this braid. When I enter a busy place, I am conscious that it is the very first thing that people look at and that is empowering in a way. That is precisely how this feels like armor to the modern woman which was once described as braids by Guido Palau.
It’s also long-lasting. I have used it all morning and all evening and it is still in great shape, just becoming a little more relaxed as the day goes on.
Half-Up with Oversized Clip
Something about the big clip that keeps half the hair back is so cute. It is easy, elegant and instantly fashionable. I adore this fall-time appearance since it isn’t overly casual; it doesn’t look messy; it doesn’t appear as though you are in a tailored coat or oversized sweater, yet it still has a touch of elegance.
Shine does work well with this style. I will run a serum such as Moroccan Oil Treatment Light through my ends before pulling it back, so that the hair will capture the light as it passes. The clip is the accessory itself, so the hair is kept smooth to allow it to shine.
What I like about this is that it is versatile. It can be worn on a daily basis, but the appropriate clip, leather, velvet, or metallic can make it look dinner-ready. As hairstylist Jen Atkin has frequently opined, accessories give a style an immediate modern touch, and this is one of the ways she is correct.
I use it when it is one of those in-between days and I want to be unchallenged but not leave anything unattended.
Twisted Half Braid

It is a day-to-night look too. With earrings and a bright lip, it changes as smoothly as possible.
Braided Bun with Layers
Braids do not necessarily should be loose, wrting them into a bun gives them a such textured effect, so dimensional. This style is contemporary yet has that old school charm we need during the fall – something to put on with lots of thick knits on a sunny Sunday afternoon.
Before rebraiding the strands into the bun, I tend to use a light curl cream to provide some texture to the strands. The appearance is softened by several loose tendrils that circle the face and shape the features in a beautiful way.

Classic Twin Braids with Ribbon
There is something school-girl about twin braids, however, when they are secured with a ribbon, they are instantly grown-up and chic and very fall appropriate. It is a form that enjoys contrasts – well-organized braids and a feminine bow combined to create a powerful and adorable style.
To provide the braids with a glossy look and texture, I prefer rubbing a smoothing gel through the hair prior to parting. After I have braided them, I use clear elastics to fasten them, and finally I tie on a ribbon at the back of the nape.
I always feel like joking around in this. It is the best hairstyle on a lazy weekend with layered outer attire or oversized knits. Vernon François has previously mentioned that braids were a celebration of individuality, and this look also reflects this concept with a few seasonal additions.
And the ribbons are limitlessly customizable, too: black velvet is sleek and dainty, or a satin or colored bow can turn the style into a play.
